Check out these three students recorded narrations. Each of these students recorded a reading of the adaptation story s/he wrote. Then s/he added music and sound effects to make the story come to life!
https://sites.google.com/a/lincoln.edu.gh/sound-effect-cluster/ Last Friday, we shared our learning from out last unit of inquiry: How We Express Ourselves. Our central idea was: Stories have common elements and are shared in many ways. About the process...Each child chose a traditional tale to adapt into his/her own version. In a cluster group, each child represented his/her adapted tale (or adaptation written as a group) with another art form. The program had a 'festival' feeling, as there were different events happening at the same time. In addition to the presentation by each cluster group, each child's adapted tale was displayed on his/her table spot inside his/her classroom. The rain caused a slight change in our plans, but it was a beautiful event and a wonderful way for students to share their learning! ...went from a pool party, to a field party, to a rained out party under the roof of the bleachers. But, we all made the best of it!
In our unit "How We Express Ourselves", we are exploring how stories are represented in different art forms. As part of the unit, students were formed into clusters. Each cluster explores a different art form. As the poetry cluster, we have written many different forms of poems based on adapted tales each child has written. We had the opportunity to work with the middle school art teacher, Ms. Lisa Thompson, and her students to make our own paper! Each child made a very special piece of paper out of Pulp Mulberry. They published the poem they were most proud of on that paper. We also wrote a poem together about the paper making process: Paper Making by Aseel, Duke, Eli, Zoe, Maartje, Emma (read to the beat of "We Will Rock You") *Boom, boom, slide Boom, boom, slide Paper, paper Making Making * We keep smashing The pulp In unison* We will, we will Tear you Apart* Scoop it in the mold And deckle* If you make a Mistake Just "kiss off"* Pump, pump up the Jack Hydraulic* Brush, brush, brush, brush On the Window* Paper, paper Making Making* During the inquiry process, it is important to "sort out" what we have learned so far. When we "sort out", we apply our learning in novel ways. Check out some of the ways we sorted out our learning: - time line - world map - headlines - conversation between significant people Students presented their learning at the Living Museum. The Living Museum was our summative assessment for our unit of inquiry: Where We Are in Place and Time. Each student arrived in costume as a significant person. They presented an iMovie they created on an iPad. They presented a timeline they created on timeline.knightlab.com They each presented a speech AS their significant person. See if you can figure out who everyone presented by their costume! Their speech answered the following questions: - What makes this person significant? - What motivated this person? - What challenges did this person face in life? - How would you describe this person with the learner profile? The students did an AWESOME job! If you could have dinner with a significant person...We made a survey about significant people. The question was “If you could have dinner with a significant person dead or alive who will it be?” In grade 3 we are learning where we are in place and time and it is about significant people and what they did to change the world. We asked grade 3 to 5 students and the teachers. - Maartje and Adi Our Class Reflection
We think the bar graph is the most effective graph for sharing our information. One reason is because we can see the number of votes for each person. Another reason is because we can see everybody’s name clearly. Finally, it shows all the significant people that we put on our survey. Each person’s name is represented. We have learned there are many reasons that different students and teachers voted for different significant people. One reason might be because they don’t know all of the people on our list. Another reason might be because they know a lot about one person, because they researched that person. |
