Central Idea: Communities plan and establish systems in order to meet people's needs. Role: You are a member of a system committee trying to build a new city that will attract a population of inhabitants. Audience: The audience is the population of people who are considering moving to 3B’s city. Format: Your product will be a city with appropriate systems that will meet the needs of its inhabitants. Task: The situation is that a neighboring city has become overpopulated. The systems in the city cannot support the number of people living there. There are water shortages, electricity outages, sewage problems, not enough green space for outdoor activities…the list goes on! You and other city planners think this will be a great opportunity to plan and build the perfect city. Grade 3 had an amazing opportunity to visit a village in the Eastern Region. We visited the Chief's Palace, learning about the traditional government system in Ghana. Then, we went to a school. We trekked to a watering hole to see one of their sources of water. We also saw their pump and boar hole (well). We also had the opportunity to join a class and learn a lesson about festivals in Ghana. Before we left, the students all played together with the students from the school. On the way home, we stopped by Blue Skies to enjoy a picnic lunch and fresh juice! 3B students each chose a system and formed expert groups. They researched that system, and they organised their information into notes. Then, they used their notes to build their system in a group. They used reusable materials to construct the parts of each system. Finally, they made connections between that system and other body systems. |
