Finally, we celebrated our understanding at a multiplication party! Students solved each other's multiplication stories to get a yummy treat!
I think that we can say that our introduction into the world of multiplication has been especially SWEET!
We have worked hard to develop our conceptual understanding of multiplication - as a building block in math. We started our journey last semester when we developed an understanding of area - and using that skills to create zoning maps for our 3B city. Then, we created candy box designs for all rectangular arrays that would hold 1 - 36 chocolates. We analyzed the arrays to notice patterns. We evaluated which array would make the best design for a chocolate box. Then we created our own chocolate boxes and filled them with yummy homemade chocolates! Because science is fun! Later, we built our own multiplication tables using arrays as a guide. Finally, we celebrated our understanding at a multiplication party! Students solved each other's multiplication stories to get a yummy treat! I think that we can say that our introduction into the world of multiplication has been especially SWEET!
